Conductor
Born in Chişinău, the capital of Moldova, Vladimir Lungu took first conducting lessons with ukrainian Maestro Mihail Secikin. He continued his studies in Romania, at „Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy of Cluj-Napoca, which he graduated both in Orchestral and Choral Conducting and earned his Master’s degree at the same Academy under guidance of well known romanian Maestros: Petru Sbârcea (a disciple of Sergiu Celibidache), Florentin Mihăescu, Gheorghe Victor Dumănescu, Cornel Groza and others. He also attended a few Master Classes, such as International Bach Academy sustained by Christfried Brödel, the ones led by Octav Calleya and Emily Freeman Brown.
In 2002 Vladimir Lungu joined the Romanian National Opera of Cluj-Napoca and during next five years made his debut in Don Pasquale, L’elisir d’amore, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, La Traviata, Un ballo in maschera, Cavalleria rusticana, I Pagliacci, Eugene Onegin, The Bat, My Fair Lady, O noapte furtunoasă (A Stormy Night), Lecția (The Lesson), Arahneea, Capra cu trei iezi (The Goat with Her Three Kids).
Between 2007-2015 Vladimir Lungu was conductor of the Mersin State Opera, Turkey, and since 2009 held the position of Principal Conductor. In that period he conducted about 30 titles of opera, ballet and vocal-symphonic works, both classical and turkish, symphonic concerts and various opera galas. His repertory was enriched by titles like Gianni Schicchi, Tosca, Madama Butterfly, La Boheme, Lucia di Lammermoor, Luisa Miller, Carmen, Aleko (first audition in Turkey), Abu Hassan, The Gypsy Baron (with Izmir State Opera), Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Le Corsaire, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Zorba, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Arabian Nights, Özsoy (first turkish opera), Çelebi ( world premiere in concert version with Istanbul State Opera), Istanbulname, Karyağdı Hatun, Mozart’s Requiem, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Saygun’s Yunus Emre Oratorio.
Between 2015-2019 Vladimir Lungu was a lecturer at Izmir Dokuz Eylül University State Conservatory, being invited among other collaborations to conduct Izmir State Opera in titles like Cavalleria Rusticana, I Pagliacci, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, The Bat, premiere of L’elisir d’amore and various concerts.
In 2019 Vladimir Lungu has started officially his tenure as conductor at Izmir State Opera.
As a guest conductor Vladimir Lungu collaborated with Istanbul, Antalya, Samsun, Bucharest, Iasi, Constanța and Cluj-Napoca Hungarian Opera Houses, The National Radio Orchestra of Bucharest, The “Transylvania” Philharmonic Orchestra of Cluj-Napoca, The “Serghei Lunchevici” National Philharmonic Orchestra of Moldova, The “Moldova” Philharmonic Orchestra of Iasi, The “Oltenia” Philharmonic Orchestra of Craiova, Philharmonic Orchestras of Arad, Sibiu, Oradea, Brașov, Botoșani, Izmir, Bursa, Adana and Eskișehir, Virginia Zeani Royal Opera Festival Orchestra, DESO Dokuz Eylül University Symphony Orchestra, KODA Karşıyaka Municipality Chamber Orchestra. He has served as Principal Conductor of “Virginia Zeani Royal Opera Festival” 3rd Edition (2019) from Târgu-Mureş, including Final Round of “L’Assoluta Virginia Zeani Royal Voice Competition”, participated frequently at highly prestigious Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival, Ephesus International Opera and Ballet Festival, Mersin International Music Festival, Eskișehir National Opera and Ballet Days, Istanbul Opera Days, Bucharest Opera Festival, Cluj-Napoca “Opera Aperta”, “Golden Opera Personalities” and “Musical Autumn” Festival, Sibiu Opera Festival, Constanța International Opera and Dance Festival. In 2016 Vladimir Lungu recorded works of american composer Steven Lebetkin with The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
Among special concerts he has conducted are excerpts of Gala Concert with José Cura at Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival, Gala Concert with legendary soprano Nelly Mircioiu & new voices of Opera, 25th Anniversary Edition of Opera Ball with National Romanian Opera of Cluj-Napoca having among special guests soprano Anita Hartig and tenor Teodor Ilincăi, Mersin State Opera’s 20th year Anniversary Gala Concert and two concerts dedicated to Romania & Turkey friendship, celebrating 140 year of diplomatic relations, Turkey’s 95th Anniversary and Romania’s Great Union Centennial, with Constanța and Izmir Opera Houses.
In 2013 Vladimir Lungu was named “Conductor of the Year” at the Turkey Lions Club Opera Awards.
